November SPS Hospital Of The Month 2024

Congratulations to Children’s of Mississippi for being named the SPS Hospital of the Month for November!

Read what Children’s of Mississippi had to say about the recognition:

Children’s of Mississippi’s vision is to touch the lives of every child in Mississippi and help them reach their full potential. As the only children’s hospital in the state, our focus is to provide children in Mississippi with the health care services they need and deserve.

“All of Children’s of Mississippi’s employees – about 2,500 – from all disciplines are working toward the collective mission of zero preventable harm. Being selected as Solutions for Patient Safety Hospital of the Month for November serves as national external recognition of the emphasis on quality and patient safety that our Children’s of Mississippi team brings to each patient and family we serve.

How has working toward zero harm positively impacted your patient experience?

“At Children’s of Mississippi, patients and families feel safe in our environment and with our team, allowing them to focus on achieving their maximum potential and returning home. Empathy and compassion alone are not enough. Coupling these care components with zero events of preventable harm is the foundation of the work we provide daily. It is what we want for our own families and what our patients and families deserve.”

On motivating teammates to achieve zero harm:

“Children’s of Mississippi’s care team members inspire and challenge each other by remembering our mission of serving children and their families. Teamwork and camaraderie among units and disciplines encourages us all.

As part of the University of Mississippi Medical Center, Children’s of Mississippi participates in Chasing Zero, UMMC’s safety campaign focused on reaching the goal of zero preventable harm to patients. Children’s of Mississippi’s Solutions for Patient Safety efforts include “Chipping Away at CLABSI,” which rewarded units’ CLABSI-free achievements with surprises such as chocolate chip cookies or chips and dip. In addition, Children’s of Mississippi is creating a culture of safety through its Safety Coaches program, sharing safety stories in meetings and celebrating the number of days without hospital-acquired infections.”

On how patients inspire their team:

“Seeing children regain their health to participate in everyday activities or receive the ongoing care they need to maintain their quality of life is inspiring. Caring for children is very special. They all deserve access to the highest level of care possible.”

We applaud their outstanding work and commitment to patient safety. You can learn more about their work here.
