Norton Children's Celebrates Safety Week 2025

SPS is celebrating Safety Week on March 9-15! In celebration of #SPSsafetyweek2025, we’re highlighting the awesome patient and employee safety improvement work within our organizations! Next up is Norton Children's. The dedication and hard work of their teams have led to significant improvements in patient outcomes.

Norton Children’s would like to celebrate the following teams:

  1. 7W and Hematology/Oncology Team: This team achieved a notable centerline downward shift in Central Line-Associated Bloodstream Infections (CLABSI) and recorded only two MBIs in 2024. Their relentless efforts contributed to a 44% reduction in the CLABSI rate hospital-wide.

  2. NICU Team: Under the leadership of the safety and quality APP, Danielle Brooks, the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) team accomplished a 22% reduction in the unplanned extubation rate compared to 2023. This achievement also included a centerline shift, showcasing their commitment to continuous improvement.

  3. Pharmacy Team: The pharmacy team has been recognized for their vigilance and dedication, earning the most "Good Catch of the Month" recognitions throughout 2024.

In addition to these team accomplishments, Norton Children's reached several significant milestones:

  • Patient Fall Prevention: The hospital has gone over 1,800 days (almost five years) without a patient fall resulting in moderate or worse injury. This remarkable achievement underscores their commitment to maintaining a safe environment for patients.

  • Safety Culture and Leadership: In 2024, the hospital's leaders participated in a safety culture and leadership methods relaunch. By leading by example in all venues, they reinforced the hospital's dedication to a culture of safety and excellence.

SPS commends Norton Children's teams for their commitment to patient safety. Here's to even greater successes ahead!
